Chicago Chimney Tuckpoint
Chimney repair when done properly by expert masons will provide years of worry free enjoyment of your fireplace.Cracks, voids, crumbling mortar, or areas of missing mortar are common problems in masonry chimneys. Intense freeze/thaw cycles and/or water erosion can cause these problems. Large holes and eroded mortar are typical signs that tuckpointing is needed.
Tuckpointing is the repair and replacement of mortar between layers of brick or stone. The mortar joint plays a significant role in the structural integrity of a chimney or firebox. It binds the bricks together, keeps moisture from penetrating the structure which can result in the break down of the bricks.
Our masons can tuckpoint projects from the smallest areas to an entire chimney or home. We can also tuckpoint the firebox walls using special high-temperature mortar, specifically designed for fireplaces.
